honoring the land
Lenapehoking
Our Acknowledgement and Commitment
Stone Wave recognizes that the land on which it stands has a long history of human habitation. The Lenape (leh-NAH-pay) occupied this territory they termed Lenapehoking that stretched from present-day Ulster County and New York City to New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and eastern Delaware. Translated roughly as “the original people.” We would like to acknowledge those who were stewards of this land before us, and those who continue to have deep strong cultural ties to this place and the injustices they have endured. Through this acknowledgement of their ties to this land, we hope to begin the long process of healing.
