More About
Amanda discovered yoga in 2012, seeking an exercise outlet following a sports injury that made running and biking less accessible. She quickly found that regular practice was helping to heal not only the physical injury, but related emotional and spiritual wounds that needed attending. Becoming a certified teacher in 2017, Amanda fell in love with the spiritual and philosophical depth of yoga. Amanda witnessed the practice add to her existing ethical commitments and contemplative practices and act as a grounding and healing complement to their work in conflict transformation.
In 2018, Amanda became a student of varied adaptations of Ashtanga yoga, benefitting from the consistency and community cultivated by Mysore-style daily practice. She has studied with Ty Landrum, Petri Raisanen and Wambui Njuguna-Raisanen, and Sara Gruss, and learned even more from her students and peers.
Amanda practices yoga as a way to experience liberation and to sustain her "day job" work as a restorative justice facilitator and peace educator. As a teacher, Amanda seeks to make yoga accessible to every body. They aim to cultivate a relaxed and inclusive space for rest, exploration, and play, offering variations and alignment-focused cues to encourage students to seek the energetic invitation of each asana, rather than a perfect external form.
