Why choose India as a yoga retreat destination?
India is where the roots of Yoga live. It is also home to over 1.4 billion diverse people, bustling cities, and many revered sacred destinations.
Beautiful views of the Himalayas await you in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, located in the Kangra Valley.
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand is the Yoga Capital of the World, where you can find sages, seekers, and master Yogis and Yoginis dedicated to their practice and spiritual awakening.
Feel nourished with freshly prepared Ayurvedic food.
Vibrant culture, with hundreds of dialects and languages spoken, festivals abound, India offers a new experience for even some of the most well-traveled visitors.
A journey you will never forget…
At Stone Wave Yoga, we are honored to be working with retreat visionary and lead Jessica Sarrantonio, RYT-200, to offer a special experience in India.
“As students of Yoga, we honor India as the birthplace of our cherished practice. Its rich heritage has provided us with profound teachings that promote well-being and inner peace,” says Liz Glover Wilson, E-RYT-500, Founder of Stone Wave. “We are thrilled to embark on this journey (yatra) and are grateful to partner with Jessica and the other beautiful co-hosts.”
We are exploring some of India’s Most Popular Yoga Places
India is dotted with cities and rural areas known for yoga. We are exploring some of the top destinations for yogi travelers including:
Delhi: Home to New Delhi, the Capital of India, Delhi is the largest city in India and the second in the world, by population. The vast history of India comes alive on the streets of Delhi. Here you will ease into yogic living with optional excursions, country orientation, and daily yoga practice co-hosted by Jessica Sarrantonio and Liz Glover Wilson.
Dharamshala: For its peaceful mountain atmosphere, awe-inspiring scenery, and teachers who are alive with the traditional wisdom of Indian yoga.
Taliyal Gaon, a village just outside Rishikesh: Rishikesh is the birthplace of yoga, “Atma kutir (Rishikesh) is the heart of Manikoot Mountain, (which is praised even in the Puranas and Upanishads, as the treasure chest of Divine knowledge and power.) Atma Kutir serves not only as a university of higher knowledge, where sincere aspirants can receive that are not available anywhere else in the world, but as a real piece of heaven, where anyone with an open mind and heart can feel and experience God” Abhyasa Yogmath. Taliyal Gaon a tranquil village just outside the hustle and bustle of Rishikesh is home to Abhyasa Yogmath where you are invited to rejuvenate your body and mind.
A deep love for India and a desire to share
Jessica Sarrantonio, RYT-200 brings her love of India and desire to share with this beautiful invitation for you to join us on a Yoga Yatra.
यात्रा (Yatra) means journey or pilgrimage in Sanskrit and Jessica has developed an itinerary that will provide you with a truly enriching experience.
We will explore traditional ashrams and spiritual retreats, experience three locations, celebrate in the Holi festival and immerse ourselves in the rich cultures of India.
“Yoga is a spiritual science for fulfillment, peace, and harmony within the individual and society. It is a holistic science of self-realization through balancing, physical, psychological and spiritual energies and reaching cosmic consciousness. Yoga is an eternal river, flowing throughout the ages, crossing many hedges and bridges, reached its present shape. We are grateful to all those great people, who preserved and added glory to this unifying wisdom. By practicing of which one can realize one’s own true self shedding all imperfections.”
